The original audio/navigation unit cannot be simply replaced on higher-spec Japanese versions like the Leaf X & G or the e-NV200 G without sacrificing considerable functionality. This includes clock control, climate control settings indicator, and electric car usage data and settings (such as charge timers and climate timers). The instrument cluster is also confused by the removal of the original audio/navigation unit, which causes it to display several settings that aren’t working correctly.
As a result, we do not recommend installing an aftermarket head unit in these vehicles unless it is specially built for this application and can communicate with the rest of the car using the CAN bus. There are presently no units that accomplish this for the Leaf X/G or e-NV200 G.
Until a suitable aftermarket replacement unit becomes available, the only options are to convert the original audio/navigation unit or replace it with a suitable unit from a similar era US or European spec Leaf or e-NV200.
